We finally got to experience the thrill of the Hot Air Balloon Festival at OWA Resort in Foley AL. On Thursday, we enjoyed a smooth journey to Tropic Hideaway and took some time to relax outside. Later, we headed to OWA and were captivated by the mesmerizing balloon glow. We had a fascinating experience watching the dogs fresh bee show, and as the evening progressed, we witnessed 22 rigs arriving. Rise and shine on Friday to witness the breathtaking balloon takeoff. Although we couldn’t witness the landing, we indulged in a delicious lunch at Wolf Bay and even took a quick nap. Later, we explored the vendors at OWA, scoring replacement coasters, and were entertained by our neighbors setting up. Saturday brought heavy fog, leading to the cancellation of balloon flights. Thursday – May 2, 2024
Our travel down was good and easy. Got to tropic Hideaway about 1:00. We setup and set outside for a short while. Then we went to OWA to see what was going on. The balloon glow was pretty cool. We also watched the dog frisbee show which was interesting.
Back at Tropic Hideaway we saw 22 rigs coming in while we were outside that evening. This is the most we have seen here.

Friday – May 3, 2024
We got up early to go watched the balloons take off. We went to OWA and there was no one there. So we had to do some research and found them at the YMCA close to Walmart on Hwy 59. The takeoff was really cool. They seemed to take off one at a time and scattered across the field. We didn’t see them land even though we tried to find them.
We ate lunch at Wolf Bay. Later we took a nap for a little while since we got up so early. That afternoon we went back to the festival and walked through the vendors at OWA . We found the booth that sold Airstream coasters and we got some additional ones.
We ate dinner and we had entertainment watching our neighbors set up. Another 16 rigs came in this afternoon.
Saturday – March 23, 2024
The balloons didn’t get to fly due to heavy fog this morning.
I sunned for a while and Jack did his thing. We got cleaned up and ate lunch in. Then we went for a little ride and a daiquiri at the wharf. We watched the Kentucky Derby that afternoon and cooked a very nice steak. Nice relaxing day!
