Oak Mountain State Park in Birmingham AL
December 28-30, 2024 – Site #2
We took our first trip to Oak Mountain State Park just outside of Birmingham. The park is really nice and we did enjoy our stay. We left home on Saturday, the same day that most of the family started to go home from the holidays. We met with our friends, Chris and Carey who drove in from Georgia.

Saturday – December 28, 2024:
We left Jaclyn and the boys and got on the road at 8 o’clock. The boys were sleeping in but driving home today. Jaclyn will visit with her mom and spend the night with Kaitlin.
No rain on the drive over, just overcast which we are thankful for. The forecasted weather is high winds, tornadoes, and heavy rains tonight.
This park is remote and wooded, with lots of dead trees. Chris and Carey were in slot #3, but before we arrived they moved to slot #6 due to several questionable trees around their rig.
We got set up and took a walk around the park with Chris and Carey. That evening Carey cooked shrimp creole and after eating, we played cards.
That evening, rain started to come in, so we hurried home to get the dogs out before the rain really set in. The weather was not bad at all, thankfully. About midnight the front arrived, we had hard winds and rain for just a few minutes. We lost power but had no other issues. In just a few minutes, the weather calmed down. The rain continued for a few hours but never got too bad. The electricity stayed off all night until around 3:00pm on Sunday afternoon.
Sunday – December 29, 2024
We all went to church at The Church of the Highlands. This is our second time to attend here. After church we went to The Summit for lunch and some shopping.
After returning to the park, we rested a minute and then Chris came over to go over his new website with Jack. Carey came to assist them as well.
We broke up for dinner, we had leftover’s of our own. After dinner we went to play spades and it was fun. It has been a long time since we played spades.
The weather today has been great, cool and sunny.

Monday – December 30, 2024
Heading home today and work tomorrow. The weather should be sunny and an easy drive.
As soon as we got on the road, Jack started getting text messages and phone calls about computer issues. So we found a rest area to make a quick stop and change drivers. From that point, Diane drove almost all the way home and Jack finished his work. Overall our drive home was just fine.
