Friday, August 21 – On the Road to Foley

We got an early start, pulling out around 6:15 a.m. Our first destination wasn’t the campground, though. We headed to Foley RV Center to pick up the new shades for Frances.

Vinny had them installed in no time, and before long we were back on the road.

Our route took us through the tunnel in Mobile, which may have been our first time towing Frances through it. Everything went smoothly.

Since we were running ahead of schedule, we stopped at Buc-ee’s for fuel and to kill a little time before check-in. We still arrived at Tropic Hideaway early, but they were happy to let us check in without any problems—or an early check-in fee.

Once we had Frances parked, leveled, and connected to electricity, we headed to Wolf Bay for lunch. It was good, although maybe not quite as good as we remembered from previous visits.

Back at the campground, we were really pleased with our site. The sites are spacious, and ours had a landscaped area and sidewalk on the camping side, giving us some extra separation from our neighbors. We’re also close to the dog park, and the site is nice and level—always a good thing!

A rain shower came through later in the afternoon and helped cool things down a little. It was HOT.

Saturday, August 22 – Taking It Easy

Saturday morning started out really nice. We sat outside enjoying the shade and a pleasant breeze, but by about 9:30 the temperature was already climbing, so we retreated to the air conditioning.

We made another Walmart run for window reflectors and then stopped by the outlet mall for a little shopping. One thing we discovered pretty quickly—the price of clothes seems awfully high when you’re accustomed to Costco, Amazon, and Walmart prices!

From there, we headed over to The Wharf for a while.

It was still extremely hot, although surprisingly it was actually a little cooler in Foley than it was back home in Mississippi.

After getting back to the campground, we cooled off inside Frances before eventually making our way to the pool. We spent the rest of the day taking it easy and cooked chicken for dinner.

Considering the heat, we’ve actually done a pretty good job keeping Frances comfortable. Between the air conditioners, fans, and our new window reflectors, we’ve managed to keep things reasonably cool inside.

Sunday, August 23 – Worship at the Flora-Bama

Sunday morning brought something new for us.

We headed to the 9:00 a.m. worship service at the Flora-Bama. Neither of us had ever attended a service there before, so it was definitely a different experience.

The music was good, the sermon was good—and it was HOT! There’s no air conditioning, but they had plenty of fans moving air around, which certainly helped.

After church, we headed to Waffle House for breakfast/brunch. They were busy, but the staff did a really good job handling the crowd.

The rest of Sunday was exactly what a Sunday afternoon at the campground should be: not much of anything.

We relaxed, rested, stayed inside where it was cool, and enjoyed having nowhere we needed to be.

After dinner, Jack started getting a few things ready for Monday’s trip home. With most everything prepared Sunday evening, we should have a pretty easy getaway in the morning.
